Buying a quality human hair wig is an investment, and with the right care, it can stay beautiful for years. Whether you own a Bone Straight wig, Bounce, Wavy, Pixie Curls, or Deep Wave unit, knowing how to care for your wig makes all the difference.
This guide covers everything you need to know about maintaining your wig, from daily care to proper storage.
1. GENERAL WIG CARE
When your wig arrives, don’t be surprised if it looks slightly different from how it’s styled during displays, during packaging and shipping the hair may flatten or lose some of its original shape.
This is completely normal.
Simply place the wig on a wig stand or mannequin head and gently style back into shape if needed.
For Straight and Bounce/Wavy textures, apply just 1 to 2 pumps of a lightweight hair serum to restore shine and reduce frizz.
Avoid heavy oils and excessive hair products as they can build up over time causing stiffness, dullness and loss of natural hair movements.
2. PROPER STORAGE
How you store your wigs directly affects its longevity.
Straight Wigs
Straight textures such as Bone Straights, Natural Straight, Kinky Straight should be stored on a wig stand or mannequin head as this helps to maintain their shape, prevents bending and keeps the hair smooth.
Curly Wigs
Curly textures such as Pixie Curls, Water Curls, Deep Wave should be stored inside a breathable wig net (this is usually used at Bu Hairs to wrap the hair textures when we package). The wig net helps preserve the curl pattern and prevents unnecessary frizz.
Bounce and Wavy Wigs
After each wear, place Bounce and Wavy wigs inside a wig net before storing them in your Bu Hairs ziplock bag (this is usually used at Bu Hairs to package the hairs). This helps maintain the curls and slows down curl drop.
3. STYLING & MAINTENANCE
Different textures require different maintenance methods,If you use hot tools, always apply a heat protectant first before styling.
Straight Wigs
Straight units may often need to be straightened/flat ironed to maintain their sleek & silky finish.
Bounce and Wavy Wigs
Bounce and Wavy wigs can be re-curled using heat-less method : Flexi rods/Bendable rollers OR heat method : Curling iron
Avoid hanging styled Bounce or Wavy wigs immediately after curling as gravity can cause the curls to drop and loosen more quickly. Allow the curls to cool completely before storing or wearing the wig.
Curly Wigs
Curly wigs require moisture to stay defined.
Fill a spray bottle with a mixture of water and leave-in conditioner, then lightly mist the hair whenever the curls begin to lose moisture and definition.
Always detangle curly hair when it’s damp, not dry. Using either a wide-tooth comb, your fingers or a detangling brushed designed for curly hairs.
Starting from the tips/ends and working your way upward helps to reduce shedding and preserve the curl pattern.
4. PROTECT YOUR WIG FROM THE ENVIRONMENT
Where you keep your wig matters just as much as how you style it.
Store your wigs in a clean , dry place away from Dust, Direct Sunlight, Excess Heat, Water, Humidity etc
These environmental factors can shorten the lifespan of your wig and affect its appearance over time.
To Conclude
A premium human hair wig is designed to last, but its lifespan depends on its owner and how well it’s maintained. A few minutes or hours of proper care after each wear can help your wig stay soft, shiny and beautiful for much longer.
At Bu Hairs, we recommend treating your wig the same way you would care for your natural hair. Store it properly, use the right products and maintain it regularly. Your wig will continue to look stunning as the day you received it.
Remember: MAINTENANCE IS KEY TO LONG LASTING HAIR
