Bone straight looks sleek, but wearing and maintaining it is not always effortless.
We understand why bone straight is so popular. But if you are buying one or generally your first bone straight wig there is something we believe every customer should understand before purchasing one:
One of the biggest misconceptions about bone straight hair is that it should remain perfectly sleek, smooth, shedding and tangle free even forever, simply because it is a bone straight.
Unfortunately, that is not how human hair works especially for the bone straight texture.
Before we continue, we must first establish that a freshly styled wig for display purposes and a wig that has been worn (especially repeatedly) will not always look the same. Understanding this before purchasing your first bone straight will help you set realistic expectations and enjoy your hair better.
Bone Straight is NOT “Tangle Free”
One of the biggest misconceptions about bone straight hair is that it should never tangle.
That is unrealistic. All human hair can tangle, including bone straights, and the nape to back area is particularly prone to it, the nape area is the lower back part of your head, right above your neck, where your natural hairline ends.
This is because the hair constantly rubs against your neck, clothing and the strands itself. Factors such as Sweat, breeze, humidity, movement, and friction increases it even further.
This is quite noticeable with longer length (18” upwards) because there is more hair coming into contact with your body and clothing.
So, if you notice tangling especially around the nape after wearing your bone straight, that does not automatically mean there is something wrong with the hair. The nape needs regular attention. Gently detangling it with the right brush from the tips all the way to the roots and keeping the hair properly maintained and cared for is part of owning a bone straight wig.
What About Flyaways?
Another common expectation is that quality bone straight should have absolutely no flyaways.
Not every strand of human hair is exactly the same length. Even in SDD hair, which has a fuller appearance from top to bottom, some shorter strands naturally exist within the bundle or wig of human hairs.
A freshly made and styled wig can look extremely sleek because the strands have been aligned and finished professionally. However, once you start wearing it, individual strands will naturally move.
Your hair is being touched, brushed, exposed to clothing, humidity and friction throughout the day. A few flyaways therefore do not automatically mean the hair is poor quality.
Your Wig Will Not Look Exactly Like the Picture Forever
This is probably the most important thing for first time buyers to understand.
As we stated earlier, perfectly sleek hair in a product display and hair that has been worn are two different things, the right styling and maintenance are what helps to bridge that gap.
The displayed look you see online shows the hair at a particular moment, usually freshly made, styled and photographed under controlled conditions.
After you purchase it, your wig enters the real world.
You wear it.
You brush it.
It rubs against your clothes.
You sit and move around in it.
You expose it to humidity or you store it.
You may sweat, and even care for it wrongly.
You may use heat and hair products.
Naturally, its appearance can change.
The hair may become slightly less sleek, develop more flyaways, lose some of its initial shine or require more styling to achieve the original finish.
That is normal wear. It does not mean the hair has suddenly become bad quality.
Humidity Is Not Your Bone Straight’s Best Friend
If you live in a humid environment, you should be particularly realistic about maintaining a sleek texture.
Humidity can affect hair behaviour, while moisture, sweat and friction can make tangling and loss of smoothness more noticeable.
This is why a bone straight wig may look perfectly sleek when freshly styled indoors but require some maintenance after spending hours outside.
Your bone straight does not hate you. It is simply responding to its environment.
Bone Straight Requires Maintenance
Bone straight is not a “wear it and forget it” texture. If you want it to continue looking beautiful, you have to care for it, Regular gentle detangling, appropriate hair products and heat use, proper storage, professionally done styling & revamping all matter.
Excessive heat and rough handling can also contribute to damage and changes in the hair’s appearance over time.
And please remember: expensive human hair does not mean maintenance free human hair.
Even premium human hair can experience normal wear.
TO CONCLUDE
We would rather educate you before you purchase than have you buy a bone straight based solely on how beautiful it looks when displayed only to end up disappointed in how it performed when poorly maintained.
Before purchasing, consider whether you are prepared to maintain the texture and whether its appearance and care requirements suit your lifestyle because there are other hairs that require less maintenance especially for first time buyers.
